Plan for summer heat

Rabbits and guinea pigs are vulnerable to summer heat. Provide a cool, well-ventilated space away from direct sun, with fresh water and a wrapped frozen bottle they can choose to rest beside.

Hay is the main meal

For rabbits and guinea pigs, fresh hay should form the main part of the diet and remain freely available. Measure pellets according to species, weight and the food’s feeding guide.

Flies in summer

Flystrike is a serious warm-weather risk, particularly for rabbits. Check their rear daily and keep bedding clean and dry. Suspected flystrike needs urgent veterinary attention.

Vitamin C for guinea pigs

Guinea pigs need vitamin C in their diet. Offer guinea-pig-specific food and suitable fresh vegetables, such as peppers. Ask your vet about individual needs; rabbit food is not a substitute.
